Steffen Peters is an Olympic Dressage rider born in Wesel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Steffen began riding at an early age of seven and was an avid young Equestrian competitor competing in weekend dressage shows. By the age of 15 he was began competing outside of his home town of Germany. Beginning at competitions in Belgium and then Denmark. His father gave him his first horse named Udon when he was age 16 as a gift from his father. Little did he know Udon would be the horse that would carry Peters to win his bronze medal in the 1996 Summer Equestrian Olympics. In 1984 he relocated to the USA and spent the summer training horses in San Diego, California. In 1991, he opened his own barn and acquired his first sponsor, Lila Kommerstad that purchased Udon and as of 2012 owned a portion of Peters' San Diego, Arroyo Del Mar training barn. Steffan Peters dressage barn houses 65 or so horses. Steffan has had a glorious equestrian carrier. Ravel and Peters went on to win the 2009 World Cup Final, two bronze medals in individual Equestrian competition at the 2010 World Equestrian Games. Making Steffen twice named to US Grand Prix Dressage Championships. And in 2009, The Chronicle of the Horse magazine named Peters and Ravel Horse, Horseman of the Year. The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) then nominated and named Ravel as the Horse of the Year. Saying a "natural athlete with a balanced seat and an inherent understanding of the horse. He's calm under pressure and has a reputation for having ice water in his veins." The Steffan in 2011 went on riding Weltino's Magic and took gold in both the team and individual dressage events at the 2011 Pan Am Games. In the 2012 Summer Olympics Peters came 17th in the individual dressage event. Peters retired his horse Ravel from competition after the 2012 Olympic Games. Then after well over 40 Grand Prix wins and in the same year his horse was inducted into the United States Dressage Federation Hall of Fame.

In 2021 at 56 years of age Steffen Peters became the oldest Olympic medalist since 1952 winning silver in the Olympic Dressage
