Hunter and Jumper refer to equestrian disciplines where horses are ridden English style and jump over a series of obstacles in a prescribed order. "Equitation" is the specialty area of the Hunter discipline where the rider is judged on their riding ability. The horse is also judged on manners, style and movement, and conformation. "Turnout," the presentation of the horse and rider, is also taken into account. The difference between Hunters and Jumpers is that with Jumpers, the horse and rider who complete the course in the fastest time without hitting and knocking down any part of the jumps wins, regardless of style. Jumper rounds require boldness and athleticism from both the horse and rider.
